The Arctic tern migrates from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back, a round trip that can exceed 70,000 kilometers in a year. No other bird is known to travel so far on the wing as a habit. The animal is the size of a hand. The route is the length of going around the planet, and then some, and then it does it again.
A small tern flies farther each year than any other bird we know.
