A firefly's glow is a chemical reaction, luciferin meeting luciferase, and almost none of the energy leaves as heat. Engineers call that cold light. The insect is not burning. It is signaling, usually for a mate, with a lamp that does not cook the lamp. Efficiency, in a backyard, is an old invention.

Firefly light is chemistry that wastes almost nothing as heat.
